

Born in Southampton, England in 1944. Richard is married with three grown up children and now lives and works in Brittany, France. He has spent many years sailing and racing yachts on the Solent and around the Isle of Wight whilst earning a living in the family business.
Richard has been painting professionally since 1997 although he became a serious amateur artist in 1978, painting mainly Yachting Portraits. The artist studied at Southampton Art College and has taught in further education.
He is a member of the Flag Institute and being a naval historian takes a great interest in ancient shipping, particularly medieval boats, their construction and design.
Richard works on a range of surfaces including traditional hardwood oval panels, canvas and slate in both oils and acrylics. Subject matter covers everything from Tall Ships, Clippers, Yacht Racing scenes to 17th century Warships and recently he has taken an interest in the Titanic and the ships of the White Star Line.
His work is in private collections in the UK, Europe and the USA, having exhibited and sold work from galleries* on 5th Ave in New York, Newport R.I and St Augustine in Florida.
Drawing inspiration from many great marine artists of the past he is known for his very traditional style, handling of colour and composition and the special attention he pays to seas and skies.
